Download an X GIF

Many GIFs on X are short silent videos. Paste the public post link and GrabGrab saves that animation, usually as an MP4. A still photo is not a video, so it may not come back as a file.

X / Twitter first. Also TikTok, Vimeo, and Facebook. YouTube is not supported.

  1. Step 1

    Copy the public post link

    Open the post on x.com or twitter.com and copy the status URL. The post has to be public. GrabGrab cannot log in to X.

  2. Step 2

    Paste the link and press Go

    Put the URL in the box, leave quality on 1080 unless you want another size, and press Go. A human check appears only if Cloudflare asks for one.

  3. Step 3

    Save the MP4

    Download the file when it is ready. Players and phones play that MP4 as the GIF. GrabGrab does not convert it to the older .gif format.

Questions

Will I get a .gif file?

Usually an MP4. That is the file X uses for the animation. GrabGrab does not transcode it into a .gif.

What about photos?

A single still image is not a video. If the post has only a photo, the download can fail.
